The Book Shelf

I keep everything worth keeping. Have a look around—the shelves are labelled.

Dark urban fantasy book hand resting on silver skull giving dark vibes and atmosphere for supernatural thriller.
SHELF ONE

Dark Urban Fantasy

Darker than average.
This shelf is for stories that take urban fantasy somewhere it doesn’t always go—into consequence, into cost, into the kind of characters who don’t get to be heroes in the straightforward sense. The plots have teeth. The world has structure. The people in it are doing their best, which isn’t always good enough and isn’t always good.

Death means something here. So does survival.

SHELF TWO

Folk Horror

Billy just wants to fit it. So, why does he insist he can fly?

For rich technomancer, Billy Nadig, life’s a game: he lives in a cool East London penthouse, has a bedroom stocked with blond-haired lovelies, and an unhealthy obsession with women’s shoes. But when Billy is told he’s a Sleeper, awoken by Heaven to stop his best friend, Tazia—a half-vampire girl—make a decision that could destroy the world, even he realizes it’s time to get serious.

Billy’s agonizing transformation couldn’t come at a worse time: demons are rising, evil angels take centre stage, and an indomitable mercenary continues to dog his every step. Saving the Earth will take both hard fighting and hard choices, maybe even the ultimate sacrifice—to kill his best friend. But if she dies, who will save Billy?

With his perfect hair and a slick line in chat, Billy says he’s just trying to fit in. But in the second of the Dark Urban Rising trilogy, “fitting in” takes him to another level entirely. Hero Worship is a supernatural thriller set on the streets of modern-day London, Las Vegas, and Boston. It digs into the darkness, with not a small amount of blood and gritty humour.”

SHELF THREE

Supernatural Horror

Good guys don’t make deals with demons… Do they?

The world is approaching the Tipping Point—when the rising demons will outnumber humankind. Assassin for hire, Soren Huxford, needs to pick a side. It should be easy; he’s human after all and so is Tazia, the girl he loves and his first priority. But when the only demon he respects calls in a favour, Hux faces an impossible choice: hold true to humanity or prove his loyalty by throwing-down alongside the demons.

Set against a backdrop of imminent disaster, where fighting the demons from his past are as real as those leaping from each dark corner, Soren needs to get a grip or he may become a monster too. And what about the girl? If he picks the wrong side, will he lose her forever?

Still with its gritty humour intact, Raw Deal is the darkest of the Dark Urban Rising trilogy. Though Hux leads the charge, this third and final book brings him back together with Tazia and Billy to face the day of reckoning. Raw Deal is a supernatural thriller set on the streets of modern-day Las Vegas, Detroit, and Turin. Blood is guaranteed.

An unexpected gem of a hook!

Anastasia is a half-vamp assassin with a soul on lockdown in the middle of a dystopian world overrun by demons. She’s only just gotten free of her cruel demon father to find out she has to rescue him in his afterlife. Not only that, but she’s on the run from her unkillable ex-lover Soren, who comes after her like the terminator. Or does he? The story is complex and twisty, with a rather shocking ending. Can’t wait to read the next in the series!

Goodreads review for Fighting Spirit:

The thrills keep on coming, the action is palpable and the explosions are loud!

This has to be one of the best books in this type within the paranormal gene I have read in, well I can’t remember to be honest, the plot is tight, I found myself caring for the characters (which is always a plus) Tazia is a character with a past, which makes you both love her and hate her, she is vulnerable then she is a bitch, but which is the real Taz? The thrills keep on coming, the action is palpable and the explosions are loud! Get ready to ride the crazy train with S.M Henley at the wheel! A brilliant first book in what looks to be a really promising series

Amazon review for Fighting Spirit:

As good as the first

I really enjoyed the first book in this series which was written from Tazia’s point of view. As Tazia is such a great character, I was initially worried that I wouldn’t like this book as much due it being written from Billy’s viewpoint, But I shouldn’t have worried – this is as good as the first and I’m really looking forward to the finale and whatever comes next from the author.
